Ickworth voted Top Small Production WineThere are two things to celebrate this summer. The release of Ickworth’s first rosé wine, Lady Geraldine’s Blush and a trophy for Walled Garden White 2005.
Masters of Wine voted Ickworth Walled Garden White 2005, the top wine in one of the categories of the 2007 English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition. It won a gold medal and went on to take The President’s Trophy for the UK’s best small production wine (less than 1,500 litres). Its winemaker, Owen Elias, himself a Winemaker of the Year, makes consistent award- winning wines at Chapel Down Winery in Kent.
The competition was held at Wroxeter Roman Vineyard in Shropshire at the end of June and Walled Garden White 2005 was one of over 200 wines from all over the country. Its sister wine, Lady Geraldine’s Blush which has only just been released for sale in the shop at Ickworth House, was awarded highly commended.
Winegrowers, Charles and Jillian Macready will pick up the award at the House of Lords on Wednesday 19th July and bring it back to be displayed in the newly furbished West Wing of Ickworth House.
